Apparently, the sophomore baseball team headed to Spring Break a little early. Well, at least their bats did.
One day after putting 15 runs on the board in a double-header split, Cougar batters only managed a lone single off a trio of Oak Ridge pitchers on Friday, falling 6-0.
The game started promisingly, as the game’s leadoff batter, Michael Davey reached on an error. But he was caught stealing moments later and until Ty Cerny’s single in the fifth inning, he was the only Cougar on the base paths.
Cerny was the losing pitcher for the Kempner squad, which falls to 2-7 on the season. He allowed six runs, but the Cougar defense did him few favors.
Kempner gets an early morning wake-up call on Saturday, as they’ll get a rematch against Katy Taylor at 9:00 a.m. The two met one week ago, as the Cougs took a nip-and-tuck victory from the Mustangs on their home field. Kempner will attempt to even their record in the Foster tournament at 2-2.
